1.1. UConn Email Account (Google Apps @ UConn) - Overview

Google Apps @ UConn

Google Apps is available to all regularly enrolled undergraduate and graduate students, and includes email, calendaring, online document storage, and webspace.

2. Lync - Getting Started

2.1. Initialize your Lync Account

Initializing Your Lync for biz.uconn.edu

If you have not logged into your @biz.uconn.edu accounts in the past, you are required to change the password for your Lync account.  Your Lync User ID is in the form of firstname.lastname@biz.uconn.edu.  This user ID is only used for your Lync connection and does not have a full email account associated with it.  (However, as a UCONN student you are provided a UCONN email account.  Please go to http://google.uconn.edu/ for more information about Google Apps and email. )

Prior to using Lync for biz.uconn.edu your account will require initialization.

Open a web browser and go to https://login.microsoftonline.com/

Log in with your username & temporary password

User ID: firstname.lastname@biz.uconn.edu
e.g. John.Dough@biz.uconn.edu

Password: Initials (Capitalized) + Peoplesoft # + !
e.g. JD123456!

Follow the prompts to set a new password and click Submit to activate the Lync for biz.uconn.edu account.

Continue to install UConn Lync for biz.uconn.edu for Windows or Mac.

 

2.2. Lync for biz.uconn.edu - PC

If you have never used Lync for biz.uconn.edu, click on Initialize your Lync Account and follow the instructions for Initializing Your Lync for biz.uconn.edu before proceeding.

There are three steps to install the PC Version of Lync:

  1. Installing Lync for biz.uconn.edu from lync.uconn.edu
  2. Installing the UConn Lync for biz.uconn.edu plugin
  3. Logging into Lync for biz.uconn.edu

Step 1: Installing Lync for biz.uconn.edu from lync.uconn.edu

To download Lync for biz.uconn.edu for your personal device, browse to http://lync.uconn.edu and click on Get started with Lync then click on the appropriate downloader for your system.

 

 

 

Allow the download to complete, then launch UConn-Lync-v1.x.exe. Click Yes on the installation window.

 

 

When completed, close the cmd windows (black window).

 

Step 2: Installing the UConn Lync for biz.uconn.edu plugin

Launch Microsoft Lync 2010.
Enter your firstname.lastname@biz.uconn.edu address and click Sign In.
e.g. John.Dough@biz.uconn.edu


An additional installation is needed the first time you run Microsoft Lync 2010 when using Lync for biz.uconn.edu.


Click Download and install now? when prompted.
Click Save to download msoidcli.msi then click Run.

 

Click Install and allow the installation to complete. You will need to restart your PC once it has completed.

Step 3: Logging in to Lync for biz.uconn.edu

Launch Microsoft Lync 2010.
Enter your firstname.lastname@biz.uconn.edu address and click Sign In.
e.g. John.Dough@biz.uconn.edu


Enter your password and click Sign In.

2.3. Lync for biz.uconn.edu - Mac

If you have never used Lync for biz.uconn.edu, click on Initialize your Lync Account and follow the instructions for Initializing Your Lync for biz.uconn.edu before proceeding.

There are three steps to Installing the Mac version of Lync:

  1. Downloading Lync
  2. Running Lync for biz.uconn.edu the first time
  3. Logging in to UConn Lync for Students

Step 1: Downloading Lync

To download Lync for biz.uconn.edu for your personal device, browse to http://lync.uconn.edu and click on Get started with Lync then click on the appropriate downloader for your system.

 

 

 

Allow the download to complete, then launch Lync_Mac_2011_All.dmg
Click on the Lync Installer icon to begin the installation. Follow the installation wizard to install and configure Microsoft Lync for Students.

 

Step 2: Running Lync for biz.uconn.edu for the first time

Double-click the Microsoft Lync icon to start Microsoft Lync for Students.
Click the Advanced icon at the bottom of the window.
Select Manual configuration under the Connection Settings option
Enter sipdir.online.lync.com:443 into both Internal Server Name: and External Server Name:
Ensure that Connect using: is set to TLS
Click OK to return to the sign-in screen and connect.

Step 3: Logging in to UConn Lync for Students

Enter your Firstname.Lastname@biz.uconn.edu account into both Email address: and User ID: fields
e.g. John.Dough@biz.uconn.edu

Enter your password and click Sign In.

3.2. Requesting a password reset for Lync

If you cannot access your Lync account and would like to have your password reset, please call us at (860) 486-5450, or email help@business.uconn.edu.
