3. How to Resolve Toshiba TDP-S20U Data Projector Wiring and Command Sending Problems

 

The tested wiring and software solution for controlling a Toshiba TDP-S20U data projector via a RS232 serial cable connected to the female 8-pin Mini DIN port on the rear of the projector. We are using a PC running Windows XP.

We had a 100 foot RS232 serial cable cut and fitted with a male and female DB-9 connector. The short adapter we made had a standard female DB-9 connector on one end and a male 8-pin Mini DIN connector on the other.

I found a wiring diagram, below, which gave me a clue as how to do my wiring. The DB-9 to DB-9 wiring diagram below is missing the ninth signal which is the RI (Ring Indicator).

This is how my adapter's wiring works out:

Following is an image that shows the male 8-pin Mini DIN. It is at one end of the adapter and plugs into the projector. Imagine you were looking at the front of the connector. Hold the connector so you see three horizontal rows of pins with a row of two pins at the bottom. The pin colors represent the color of the wire attached to the DIN pins and the Pin numbers mirror the pin numbers on the female Mini Din connection on the projector.

The following image represents the soldering points at the rear of the female DB-9. The pin colors represent the color of the wires coming from the Mini DIN.
